Review – Tatcha Water Cream

Ok, this review is also way overdue.. As usual.. *sigh*.. I’ve been using this product since Oct 2017 and I’m only going to review it now in the year 2018.

Before we begin, let’s just check out its ingredients below first, shall we?

Ingredients

Aqua/Water/Eau, Saccharomyces/Camellia Sinensis Leaf/Cladosiphon Okamuranus/Rice Ferment Filtrate*, Dimethicone, Propanediol, Glycerin, Diglycerin, Diphenylsiloxy Phenyl Trimethicone, Gold, Belamcanda Chinensis Root Extract, Rosa Multiflora Fruit Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Lecithin, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Citrate, Mica, Peg-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Phenyl Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Disodium Edta, Tin Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum/Fragrance, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol *Hadasei-3.

Yup, I’ve highlighted in red above the ingredient “Gold”! As casual as can be.. This ingredient is lodged in between all the other ingredients so that one might just miss it if you are not paying attention. *So, yeah.. By the way, my face cream contains gold.. Just causally slide that info into your conversations like that.. It’s just plain old gold.. Nothing too fancy..*

Gold is like, such a common ingredient in face cream you guys!

How does the Tatcha Water Cream fare?

Tatcha Water Cream is an oil-free moisturiser that “releases a burst of skin-improving Japanese nutrients, powerful botanicals and optimal hydration for pure, poreless skin”. Its texture is quite special in that when you scoop out the product with the beautiful golden spoon that’s included on top of the pot packaging, it’s in a cream form. However, when you spread it onto your face, the cream actually disintegrates into a liquid which rapidly sinks into your skin.

How ingenious is this packaging?! You just slide the tiny golden spoon out to scoop your product!

I don’t know why but when I read reviews of this product online, I had this impression that it would be a gel-like product. But I can definitively tell you that the texture is definitely not gel-like. It has a “heft” to it that was surprising to me. However, it does get absorbed into my skin quickly without leaving it greasy. I like that it’s light enough not to interfere with the liberal application of my sunscreen, yet it is still hydrating enough for my combination dry skin. I’m not sure how it would perform for drier skins, especially in winter when the weather is dry. However, I found it perfectly hydrating enough even though I’m in an air-conditioned office for most of the day. Note that I’m located in Singapore, which is a tropical hot and humid country all year round.  The product spreads very easily, which means that I do not need to use much product for my face. I’ve had this product for around 3 months and I’m only halfway through the pot.

All in all, I like the Tatcha Water Cream and how it performs. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t really have very high expectations for my moisturisers since I rely mostly on my actives and serums to do the heavy lifting. For day creams, my basic expectations are that it should not interfere with my sunscreen application (since I wear so much of it) or break me out. It should also help to provide a “barrier” of sorts to keep my actives and serums in my skin and provide adequate moisture against the drying air-conditioning in my office. This product has done all that and I’m happy with it. I’m not sure whether I would repurchase though because its effects are fairly basic for its price.

I bought this product from Tatcha Online. It retails at US$68 (50ml sized).

Review – Trilogy Rosapene Night Cream

trilogy-rosapene-night-cream.png

Trilogy’s Rosapene Night Cream is a product that I had discovered entirely by chance. It was during the period of time that I was trying the Differin Gel for the first time and was worried about waking up with a dry peeling face. Back then, I had a sample of this night cream and I used it for the first time together with the Differin Gel. When I woke up the next morning, I was so surprised to find that my face was super soft and smooth. While I bought my Black Chicken Remedies Love Your Face Serum some time back, I also added this item into my cart. However when I actually received this product, I promptly forgotten about it until now. My skincare cupboard is literally so full of products that I could go “treasure hunting” and find some products which I didn’t even remember that I’d bought. I’m gonna try my darnest to keep to a no-buy ban for 3 months since I’ve gone way crazy with my skincare purchases during the November Black Friday sales and the December holiday season.

Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate, Coco-Caprylate, Lycium Barbarum (Goji Berry) Fruit Extract, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Seed Oil (and) Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (and) Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil (and) Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (and) Tocopherol, Lycopene, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Oil (and) Tocopherol, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Oil (and) Tocopherol, Mel (Honey), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Seed Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Matricaria (chamomile) Flower Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate (vitamin E), Parfum, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Citric Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid (and) Benzyl Alcohol, Citral, Geraniol, Citronellol, Limonene, Linalool, Dehydroacetic Acid (and) Benzyl Alcohol

How does the Trilogy Rosapene Night Cream fare?

Trilogy’s Rosapene Night Cream is an antioxidant rich night cream that claims to restore, rejuvenate and re-hydrate your skin. Trilogy claims that you will wake up to a brighter and more revitalized skin the morning after.

Well, I’ve been using this cream for around 1.5 months and I’ve been loving it! You know, I was so worried that it would break me out because the Trilogy day cream that I’ve tried previously broke me out even though I couldn’t find any offending ingredients in it. Luckily that never happened with this product. I like that the Rosapene Night Cream is a mid-weight cream that offers substantial moisture without the greasiness of heavier creams. It sinks into my skin easily and leaves it matte yet moisturized (very odd description, I know!). My skin feels so soft and nourished the next morning when I wash my face, and I knew that I was onto a good thing. I like it a lot and I think I will repurchase it once I work through my heaping stash of skincare products (I really need to stop my skincare hoarding habits!). In my opinion, this cream is very good for combination to dry skins. Severely dry skins might prefer a richer cream and extremely oily skins might not appreciate its relatively creamier texture.

Where can you find it?

I bought it from Adore Beauty online. It retails at AU$46.95 (60ml sized).

In Singapore, you can buy it from Zalora SG. It retails at S$88 but is often discounted for around S$60++.

Review – Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion

I had been lemming over the Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion ever since I saw this product being featured on Caroline Hiron’s blog (the top UK skincare expert blogger who’s also a globally qualified advanced aesthetician). Back in July 2017 when Net-A-Porter was having their sale on skincare products, my heart leapt with joy! It was on sale for US$34.71 when it usually retails at US$58. I immediately grabbed the chance to make the purchase because how could I miss this great deal?!

Anyway, I’ve been using this product for quite some time (around 3 months in fact!) and think that I’m ready to provide my thoughts on it.

Ingredients

Water/Aqua/Eau, Cyclopentasiloxane, Stearyl Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Octadecene, Glyceryl Behenate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Collagen Amino Acids, Sodium Hyaluronate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Phospholipids, Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Fruit Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract, Saccharide Isomerate, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus Ferment, Acrylates/Carbamate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Dimethicone Crosspolymer-3, Ethylhexylglycerin, Isododecane, Behenic Acid, Ceteareth-20, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Linalool, Limonene, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Citronellol, Hydroxycitronellal, Citral, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Disodium EDTA-Copper

How does the Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion fare?

Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Moisture Cushion is an oil-free gel moisturiser that touts to deliver intensive moisturisation without suffocating oily skin or exacerbating congestion. The moisture is apparently time-released so that it is long-lasting and keeps the skin supple, soft and dewy. In short, this is a hydrating oil-free gel moisturiser.

My Dr Dennis Gross family!

This product is the one that I started using once I realised that my Dr Jart Ceramidin Cream wasn’t quite cutting it for me in my daytime skincare routine. As I’d mentioned previously, although I love that cream, it doesn’t wear well underneath sunscreen and makeup for me. Hence, I broke out this new moisturiser and the first time that I used it, I find that it works perfectly under makeup. It has a light gel-cream texture that sinks into my skin quickly leaving behind a soft slightly matte finish. Although it contains silicones, there wasn’t any flaking or “rolling” and my sunscreen and makeup just glides over it and sits nicely on top without looking patchy.

Originally I thought that this product wasn’t too different from the usual gel moisturisers that I’ve tried but boy was I wrong! I packed this product with me on a recent trip to Australia as it’s pretty much a fuss free product. As you might know, the humidity levels in Australia are way lower than Singapore and that’s when I realised just how good a hydrator this product is. True to its name, it really provides a moisture cushion against the drying weather conditions and does it so inconspicuously that I didn’t realise that my skin doesn’t feel dry at all throughout the trip. It wasn’t until my husband asked for my skincare products since his face feels extra dry and uncomfortable that I realised just how well it was working for me. His tight and flaky skin was transformed after the 2nd day of applying this cream. I also applied a liberal amount of this product during my flight and my skin remains soft and dewy even when I touched down.

I think this product is suitable for almost all skin types except maybe the super sensitive skins who might react to the some of the mild AHAs included in the ingredients list. This moisturiser would be particularly beneficial for those people with dehydrated combination oily skins who crave the deep hydration that a good moisturiser should provide but are also prone to clogged pores or acne at the same time.

Where can you find it?

I bought this product from Net-A-Porter Online while it was on sale. It normally retails at US$58.

You can also purchase it from their official website and Cult Beauty Online.
